Construction sequence: First fired to cone 06. Air-brushed underglaze applied. Hand-painted seahorse pattern added onto the fabric-like quilted surface. Clear glaze applied; quilted fabric left matte. Refired to cone 5/6. China paints applied for more color and depth. Fired again to cone 015. Opalescent overglazes applied. Fired once again to cone 017. Mother of pearl and platinum lusters applied. Final firing done to cone 018.

This art work represents one of the early developments in my seahorse series.

It is a purse-cum-teapot that evolved with the introduction of the seahorse motif.

After the construction phase, I began by hand-painting various seahorse images on the quilted surface fabric of the purse.

To immerse theseahorses into the watery element they clearly needed, I then added interspersed multilayered sea-colored glazes to try to capture a delicate, shimmering, ephemeral sea-like quality.
