This stoneware clay piece is based on the prototype Pocketed Basketbook, but with a number of modifications to advance it from the artistic and constructional perspectives.
Principal among these was altering the way the work presented itself so that it was more upright and imposing. Further, its coloration was changed after firing by using acrylic paints and colored pencils.
This was done with the objectve of providing new and more vivid intensification of the color design.
Construction sequence: Fired to cone 06. Basket portion hand-painted with velvet underglazes. Body painted with turquoise cone 6 glaze. Refired to cone 6. Gold luster applied. Fired yet again to cone 018. China paintsoverglaze applied. Final firing done in regular oven. Cold finished with applications of acrylic paints and colored pencil, plus a clear protective glaze.
